Rhythmic Gymnastics All-Around Finals
Artistic Gymnastics may be winding down in Birmingham but Rhythmic Gymnastics is just getting started! The All-Around competition kicks off August 4th and will feature THREE Canadian representatives.
Tatiana Cocsanova, Suzanna Shahbazian, and Carmel Kallemaa will be competing in the All-Around event, coached by Natalia Popova and Janika Molder.
Kallemma recently made history by becoming Canada’s first Rhythmic Gymnast to win a medal at the Pan-Am Games when she won bronze last month in Rio! We know she will make our team proud this week in Birmingham.
The entire competition will feature six events: hoop, club, balls, ribbon, individual all-around and team all-around. Once the All-Around finals are complete, the athletes will also compete in the four individual event finals. The event final will take place later this weekend!
Make sure to catch Canada’s Gymnasts on the floor!

Diving
Five female Canadian divers were nominated to participate in this year’s Commonwealth Games after competing in 2022 Summer National Championships… And it’s now time for them to show the world why!
Among the women representing the country at Sandwell Aquatics Centre are veteran divers, Tokyo 2020 Olympians, and former participants in Australia’s 2018 Commonwealth Games, Caeli McKay (who won silver in the 10m synchro) and Ontario-born Celina Toth.
And on the flip side, for teammates Margo Erlam and Mia Vallée, this will be their first multi-sport international event as part of Team Canada. And it’s looking promising as both divers have previously won two international gold medals in their first season as a team!
Sixteen-year-old Renée Batalla is also new to the senior international competitive space and will no doubt look to impress as one of the younger athletes.
In 2018, Canada managed to claim six medals in diving, with one gold, four silver, and one bronze medals. Will they be able to surpass it this year?

Beach Volleyball
Beach Volleyball is back at this year’s Commonwealth Games and Canada’s defending Gold medalists are also back and will be looking to repeat!
Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes topped the podium at the inaugural Beach Volleyball event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and are excited to be reunited at these Games.
The team just recently won Gold at the Beach Pro Tour in Latvia, and placed fifth at this year’s Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome in the Spring. Pavan and Humana-Paredes also represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics one year ago - safe to say they’re warmed up to compete in Birmingham!
Don’t miss it as they compete for Canada in Beach Volleyball all week!

Powerlifting
In this year’s Commonwealth Games, Team Canada’s women’s PowerLifting team has given us a treat! They have qualified athletes in each of the eight available weight categories — giving us tonsss of heavy lifting to look forward to.
And we’ve already got a lot of it at the National Exhibition Centre!
So far, former Olympic and Commonwealth Champion Maude Charron kept up her reputation by setting MULTIPLE Commonwealth Games records and winning gold in the women's 64-kg event.
And that’s not all! 27 year old Toronto-born athlete Maya Laylor also won the gold this year — Canada’s seventh at the event so far — in the 76-kg class!
The momentum is high and the weights will continue to be too!
